USED DRINKING STRAWS RECYCLING PROJECT

This is an Urban used Plastic Straws recycling project innovation that came into action in Uganda, to save the Environment through recycling of used plastic drinking straws. A drinking straw is a short tube intended for transferring a beverage from its container to the mouth of the drinker by use of suction. Plastic drinking straws are made from polypropylene, they are strong and that makes Drinking straws bad for the environment — first because the plastic straw, itself, doesn't biodegrade. Waste straws in Uganda are collected from beer and soft drink depots, Restaurants, etc cleaned, and woven into mats for picnics and prayers or joined to form very strong and durable shopping bags, table mats, glass covers etc by various non governmental organisations, women groups, youth groups such Africa Youth Ministries Recycling used plastic drinking straws saves the environment -- from landfills to waterways to the entire food chain. Recycling used drinking straws has proved a source of employment and income to many women and youth groups in Uganda. Join the campaign to save the environment, imagine More than 500 million disposable plastic straws are used in the United States every day and would fill more than 127 school buses daily, or more than 46,400 school bus loads per year. (40ft. – long buses) This project us implemented in partnership between Greening Uganda, Africa Youth Ministries, Red Ribbon Fund, Restoration & Hope For Refugees.

HOW CAN I HELP

Like any other project, to enroll and train more beneficiaries, we need funds, for training, materials collection, trainers allowances, transport, accommodation, and feeding. Your donation of US$ 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 or more, will help train more unemployed young women, youth, orphans, street kids in used drinking straws recycling. For safe and secure online donations

You can as well become a fundraiser, though collection of used drinking straws require little or no funds, but processing them requires funds e.g. to buy detergents and disinfectants for the cleaning process, knives for flattening, industrial tailoring machines for making and hemming shopping bags and pick-nick/prayer mats. As we're looking for funds US$ 12,000 to buy a pick-up truck for daily collection of used plastic drinking straws, and distribution of finished products to stores, supermarkets, exhibitions etc Help us market our products e.g. shopping bags, table mats, sleeping/prayer and pick-nick mats.
